How to reset your Apple ID password – have you ever forgotten an important password? A rescue in such a situation may be an option that helps in recovering it, e.g. by answering the auxiliary question that had to be answered during registration. However, this is not possible in all situations. What if you forget your Apple ID password? Does this mean you have to pay a visit to the Apple showroom and say goodbye to your data? Not necessarily. Resetting your password is possible with a few simple tips – all you need is access to other iOS or Mac devices.
What is an Apple ID?
If you use Apple devices, you are probably well aware of what an Apple ID is. Apple ID is an account that allows you to use Apple services, such as: App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, iMessage or FaceTime. This account includes both an email address and a password for logging in. Apple’s policy enforces that a user’s password must be strong – to do so, it must contain at least eight characters, including uppercase and lowercase letters, and at least one number. Apple also advises not to use the same password for multiple accounts and to change your security frequently. What if, following these guidelines, we forget the password? Can they be recovered? Resetting the password does not have to involve a visit to a repair shop and data loss. Maybe you don’t realize that you can do it yourself, in the privacy of your home. So before you take more radical steps, try to follow one of the tips listed below.

Have you forgotten your password? Try resetting them using other Apple devices
A very simple way to reset a forgotten password is to log in on another Apple device, from which we will clear the password on our phone. However, this method has one disadvantage, because the device from which we will log in must belong to us and be associated with the same account. However, it is not specified that it must be a mobile device, so you can reset your account from another phone, iPod, iPad, and a Mac desktop computer. On the device you are going to use, you need to find the function related to resetting the password – it will be in the settings or in the topics – depending on the device. Then follow what is displayed on your screen. If you are using a computer to reset your password, at some point you may be asked to enter your password on the screen. This can be quite embarrassing for you, because you are just trying to reset your password and you don’t remember what it was exactly. Don’t worry, this is the password you use to secure your computer. After entering it, information should appear that the password has been changed. Now you can easily log in to your Apple ID – using the new password.

Take care of your password in advance and enable two-factor authentication
You can also prevent the need to reset your password. How to do it? Just turn on two-factor authentication. This type of service has been built directly into iOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS and Apple websites. Two-factor authentication is the default security method for some new Apple ID accounts created in iOS 10.3 and later or macOS 10.12.4 and later. What if you own a device with an older operating system? Then you can use two-step verification of your Apple ID. The first time you sign in with your Apple ID and password, you’ll need to confirm your identity by entering a six-digit verification code, which is automatically displayed on other devices or sent to a trusted phone number.
Password reset using a trusted phone
It may also happen that you do not turn on two-factor authentication in time and you do not own any other Apple device. What to do in that case? Is password recovery possible then? Yes of course. However, there is a condition here as well. You need to have access to another iOS device – which you can borrow, for example, from a family member or trusted friend. Once you get such a phone, install the “Apple Support” application on it, after opening it, select the option related to password recovery for another device and follow what is displayed on the screen. When all the steps are done correctly, a prompt should appear on the screen informing you that the password has been changed.
As you can see, resetting the Apple ID password is not a difficult activity, but it is related to having access to other Apple devices or having trusted people around you who will be able to help us solve this problem.
