Today, our world simply does not remember the times when there were no different access cards. They are everywhere: when buying, shipping, paying for various types of PC access cards or personal IT resources for a specific company. What is an RFID card? Its task is to identify a specific access code or person. Access cards contain specific data and keys that allow access to specific functions. Soon there will be a technology that uses a phone or other NFC-enabled device as an identifier.
Modern proximity card
The proximity card is a plastic card with a microchip and an antenna. The chip acts as a receiver and transmitter, and also contains information with an identification code. Information is read and written in a non-contact way due to the electromagnetic field generated by the reader. The radius of action varies from 0 to 70 cm.

RFID card: how does it work?
This card is passive and will not emit a signal without a special reader. The reader generates an electromagnetic field, which, thanks to the induction coil, charges the capacitor, which in turn transfers the energy to the integrated circuit. The microchip then transfers the data from the memory to the reader via an induction coil. Therefore, all proximity cards use RFID technology (Radio Frequency Identification).
What is an RFID card?
This is a plastic card with an embedded label. The main areas of application of RFID cards are access control systems, personal identification, payment systems (parking, communication, services, attractions). RFID cards are usually the same size as standard plastic magnetic cards, but the cards can be slightly thicker. In the case of proximity cards, different types of RFID can be used, which differ in frequency, chip, exchange standard, memory capacity and the ability to store information about the user.
Type of access system
How to define the type of access control card? They are divided by appearance. They can be in the form of a key ring or a plastic card. They are used to pay for purchases every day, opening the door to enter. All cards are divided according to various criteria.
According to the principle of operation, there are the following types of access control cards:
-
-
-
-
- touch. This also applies to bank cards. Yes, it’s not the most convenient way to read, but sometimes it’s wiser and safer to use
- approach. The placeholder map is a handy device that is easy to use because the location of the cards themselves does not matter. Reading can be done from a large enough distance.

In addition, such devices are more durable and protected against dust and moisture. The reading range may vary due to its specificity, this does not apply to contact cards.
Cards are also divided by identification technology:
-
-
-
-
- with a barcode
- with magnetic stripe

RFID cards are media on which information can be written and read using radio signals. They are durable enough to operate over long distances and even protect against the negative effects of the external environment. Today, they help create a two-factor identification system.
What access control card is currently popular?
Although the technology is well developed today, the most common in security systems are still rfid cards that operate in open mode at 125 kHz. With their help, you can modernize and significantly improve outdated access control systems and implement two-factor identification systems.
The Em-marine plastic RFID card is a card with a contactless Em-marine chip (125 KHz) for direct printing. It is mainly used as a pass in access control systems, as an identifier and as a discount card in some loyalty programs. This type of card is mainly used for the combined method of access control settlements, as well as for the implementation of an ID card and a micropayment card in one card.
Mifare 1K rfid card with proximity chip (13.56MHz) for direct printing. It is commonly used for internal deposit and payment procedures and for passes in high-security access control systems (such as hotel room entrances). It is extremely difficult to copy and imitate.
Atmel (Temic) RFID RFID cards with T5557, T5577 induction chips operate at 125 KHz. The Atmel T5557 chip carrier is made in the form of a contactless plastic card for direct printing. An analog card with an Em-marine chip, but with the ability to rewrite information. For example, you need it for many identical passes (repeats) of an object.
For katy to work, an RFID reader is needed that provides interaction between the rfid card and the memory card ID database. Depending on the purpose of the RFID system, the software will read, write, authorize, etc.
